Questions
How do I estimate my bench press max?+
Take a recent hard set — weight, reps, and how hard it felt on the RPE scale (RPE 10 = nothing left, RPE 8 = two reps left) — and enter it above. The calculator maps the set to a percentage of your 1RM and works backwards. Sets of 2–6 reps taken close to failure give the most reliable estimates.
Is 225 × 5 a big bench?+
225 for 5 estimates to roughly a 260 lb max — a strong lift by any everyday-gym standard. What counts as “big” depends on your body weight, age, and training years, so the more useful habit is tracking your own estimate over time and beating your old numbers.
Touch-and-go or paused reps?+
Touch-and-go reps usually estimate higher than a competition-style paused bench. If you train touch-and-go but test paused, expect your tested max to come in under the estimate — treat them as two different lifts and track them separately.
How accurate is the estimate?+
It's an estimate — a solid planning number, not a promise. RPE is self-reported and everyone's rep-to-max relationship differs a little. The fewer the reps and the closer to failure, the tighter the estimate.
Can I save my bench max somewhere?+
That's the whole app: a free account saves your bench, squat, and deadlift maxes with full dated history, calculates working weights from reps + RPE, builds warm-up ramps, and shows exactly which plates to load. No ads, no subscription.
