Questions
How do I estimate my deadlift max?+
Enter a recent hard set — weight, reps, and how hard it felt on the RPE scale (RPE 10 = nothing left, RPE 8 = two reps left). The calculator maps the set to a percentage of your 1RM and works backwards. On deadlifts, lower-rep sets (2–5) estimate best.
Touch-and-go or dead-stop reps?+
Dead-stop reps — resetting on the floor each time — match how a max attempt actually happens. Touch-and-go sets use the bounce, so they tend to inflate the estimate. If you pull touch-and-go, expect your true max to sit a bit under the number.
Why do deadlift estimates run hot or cold?+
Deadlift rep sets punish grip and lower-back endurance more than the other lifts, so some lifters underperform their estimate on max day and fresh, low-rep lifters can beat it. Fewer reps, closer to failure, tighter estimate.
Sumo and conventional — same max?+
Treat them as separate lifts. Most lifters are meaningfully stronger in one stance, so estimate and track each on its own.
